I like to be nec/mes, and split points between death, soul reaping, and illusion

animate bone fiend
veratas sacrifice
blood of the master
crippling anguish (or animate golem if you like those)
conjure phantasm
distortion
clumsiness
deathly swarm

has no self healing though, so best to have a good monk

crippling anguish and distortion keeps warriors and assassains off you pretty well, and you can slow things and just run off and cap points.

Well that's one great thing... but I'd replace one of those skills with Taste of Death, to self-heal?

The base these day's is usually Flesh Golem, Bone Fiend, Blood of the Master, and Verrata's Aura (for when you die). Then there's some flexibility, but missing any of those skills makes it fairly abnormal.

N/Mo is very popular. Usually spend some points on Healing, and take Heal Area and Healing Breeze for keeping yourself alive.

Note that these are usually dedicated minion masters. They don't have other defensive or healing skills, and are mostly useless for anything else (which is usually fine).
